Here is the catch: Taiwan enforces a strict legal safety limit of 2.0 μg/kg, matching the European Union. Meanwhile, China’s own national food safety standard (GB 2762) sets Beijing’s legal limit at 10.0 μg/kg, five times higher than Taiwan’s. In other words, the exact same contaminated oil triggering massive recalls, record fines, and criminal prosecutions in democratic Taiwan would be considered completely safe and legal to sell under the CCP’s own lax regulations.
