Police are publicly smashing piles of confiscated smartphones with hammers.

The campaign is meant to demonstrate loyalty to the Taliban’s supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, who has called for abandoning smartphones.

According to local media, government officials have also been banned from using smartphones and are being encouraged to switch to basic feature phones.

Progress in Afghanistan is moving full speed ahead — straight back to the Stone Age.
