Mayor Mamdani’s team just confirmed: his new city-run grocery stores will require an ID to shop. Not just any ID, a special one, so they can verify you’re actually a New Yorker before you get 30% off milk and bread. 🥛🍞

Why? Because they’re worried people will drive in from Jersey and clean out the discounted groceries. Fair enough, I guess.

But here’s the part nobody can explain: 🧠

This is the SAME administration, and the same party, that calls voter ID laws racist. Says it’s “too burdensome.” Says it disenfranchises people. Says requiring ID to prove who you are before you vote for the leader of the country is some kind of civil rights violation.

Yet showing ID to buy a discounted rotisserie chicken? Totally reasonable. No pushback. No “burden” talk. Just straight up: bring your papers or no groceries.
